South Asian Bioethics Community (SABC) – Panel Discussion

Thursday, Feb 16, 2023 | 6:30 pm IST

South Asian Bioethics Community (SABC) is a global forum that brings healthcare ethics peers from South Asia together. Our meetings will take the form of seminars, journal clubs, and panel discussions on topics relevant to healthcare ethics each month (3rd Thursday at 6:30 pm).

Health systems all over the world, whether in high income or low and middle income countries (LMICs), were unprepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. Governments in LMICs have resorted to privatizing healthcare facilities as a quick solution to improve healthcare service delivery and increase efficiency. Even though such efforts have benefits, they threaten the core values of equity, fairness, and justice in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). During this panel discussion, we will discuss the vision of UHC, how the concept has evolved over time, and how it may change in the future in light of recent privatization efforts in several LMIC contexts.
