The Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences offers postgraduate courses in public health. Established through funding from the University Grants Commission in 1989, the School is the first institution in the country to offer a Master in Public Health (MPH) programme. In addition to the MPH, the School offers an MSc in Health Sciences and two PhD programmes (in Public Health and in Health Sciences). A significant proportion of learning is conducted at the School's field-training area at the Kamshet Primary Health Centre which provides a field-level understanding of sub-district level health system organisations, and the role of community health workers, disease control programmes, health promotion services, maternal and child health services and disease surveillance. The School mentors students from all over the world, providing an understanding of public health and health services in developing countries, using India as an example. Faculty at the School are engaged in research on the subjects of birth defects, ageing and evidence-based Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine.
