Professor Dr Silke Schicktanz is a full Professor at the Department of Medical Ethics and History of Medicine at the University Medical Center Göttingen. (http://www.egmed.uni-goettingen.de/index.php?id=21&L=1). She is a Board Member of the German Academy of Medical Ethics and was a member of CFRS (Committee of Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science (https://www.icsu.org/about-us/governance/committees/committee-on-freedom-and-responsibility-in-the-conduct-of-science-cfrs) of ICSU until 2018.

Her research focuses on cross-cultural studies of bioethics, lay-expert-communication, ethical and social assessment of life sciences and biomedicine, concepts of responsibility, methods of public engagement.

Her international research profile is based on several research fellowships at UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, US, Safra Center at Tel Aviv University, the University of Lancaster, UK, the Delhi University School of Economics, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India.

She has initiated, conducted and led several interdisciplinary and international research consortia, funded, among others, by the European Union, the German Research Council, the Volkswagen Foundation, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German-Israeli Research Foundation, the Swedish Reichsbank Jubileums Fond, German Academic Exchange Programme, and the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
