Sayantan Datta (they/them) is an independent science and health journalist currently heading the Science Writing & Data Storytelling Lab at Alliance University, Bengaluru. Their work, funded in the past by the National Association for Science Writers (USA), the UK Research Initiative, the ReFrame Institute for Arts & Expression, and the Foundation for Advancement of Science & Technology (India), lies at the intersections of science, sexuality, gender, health, and caste. They’ve been awarded the 13th Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity, and the inaugural Sage-Ashoka Prize for Critical Writing Pedagogies. Their queerbeat story investigating the lack of dignity in death of transgender people in India has been shortlisted for the One World Media Awards 2026, and their children’s books have been twice listed in Tata Trusts’ Parag Honour List.
