Dr Sunu C Thomas is currently working as an Assistant professor, Department of Public Health in School of Medicine at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi. She has a masters and PhD in Public Health from Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS), Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, Kerala. Dr Thomas works in the area of gender, bioethics and sexual and reproductive health.
Her research works focuses on infertility issues and its intersection with gender. She received a fellowship to look at intimate partner violence in infertility particularly in the context of male infertility by the Center for Global Women’s Health & Gender Equity, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore. Dr Thomas currently teaches gender issues in health, medical anthropological perspectives in health, and qualitative research methodology at Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi. In addition, she is also principal investigator (PI) of a project to understand the perceptions and reasons for infertility among tribal communities in Wayanad, Kerala and Co-PI in an ICMR-funded project looking at the effectiveness of a community-based peer lead P-MED intervention in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) mothers in South India.
