Priya Satalkar has multidisciplinary training in medicine, public health and epidemiology, medical anthropology and bioethics. She currently works as a scientist in the department of Sexual and Reproductive Research and Rights at the World Health Organization, Geneva.
Priya received PhD in Biomedical Ethics at the Institute for Biomedical Ethics (IBMB), University of Basel, Switzerland in February 2016. Her doctoral research investigated ethical challenges of translational biomedical research of cutting-edge medical technology such as nanomedicine, with a particular focus on first-in human clinical trials. Until Dec 2022, she held various postdoctoral fellowships at University of Basel, King’s college London and University of Ghent, Belgium. Her research focusing on research integrity, medical tourism and reproductive technology was funded by the Swiss Academy of Medical Science, Swiss National Science Foundation, European Research Council and Belgian FWO.
Priya has been an invited member of ethics expert panels to review projects selected for funding under H2020 program of the European Commission. She has a keen interest in science communication. She has participated in a number of public debates organized within the University of Basel and at other universities in Switzerland.
