Dr Ehsan Shamsi Gooshki graduated as a physician in 2005 after seven years of medical education and many cultural and NGO activities at a national level. Later, following a 3-year period of administrative experience as the director of the international campus of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Iran, he was enrolled in the first Ph.D. program of medical ethics in Iran, in 2009. Until his graduation in 2013, he had been working as executive director of the Iranian Research Center for Ethics and Law in Medicine, and was also involved in several research projects, the teaching of medical ethics to undergraduate and graduate medical students, speaking at a number of national & international workshops/conferences and participating in the UNESCO Ethics Teachers Training Course”.

Dr Gooshki has done an internship in the department of ethics at the World Health Organization in Geneva and was also a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics, University of Zurich and at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University, Washington DC. simultaneously. In June 2013, he defended his dissertation, which explored the ethical, jurisprudential and legal aspects of Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) Orders in the Iran health system, as the first graduate of the medical ethics Ph.D. programme in the country. Now, as an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics at Tehran University of Medical Sciences as the core of his activities, he is trying to apply ethical standards to practice as the Director of the National Committee for Ethics in Biomedical researches at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, as Director of Medical Ethics Department of Islamic Republic of Iran Medical Council, and as Secretary of the Medical Ethics Group at the Iran Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 2006, he has been nominated by the Minister of Higher Education as member of the National Bioethics Committee, hosted by the National UNESCO Commission.
