Dr Aamir Jafarey is Professor at the Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture (CBEC), SIUT of the Sindh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) in Karachi, Pakistan. He is currently serving as the Chairperson of CBEC since March 1, 2026. He joined CBEC in October 2004 after training in bioethics as a Fogarty Fellow in the Department of Population and International Health, Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr Jafarey has been involved in bioethics-related activities in Pakistan since 1997. He has conducted several research projects and has published in national and international journals. He has been invited to present papers and conduct workshops at various institutions nationally and across the region. Dr Jafarey is also a Co-Director of the NIH-funded CBEC-KEMRI Bioethics Training Initiative (CKBTI) through which a bioethics education program has been developed and initiated in Kenya.
