Dr Sanjay Nagral trained in surgery at the Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. He was Associate Professor of Surgery at the KEM Hospital. In 1996 he was awarded the Inlaks Fellowship to train in Liver surgery in the UK. He currently serves as Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon, Dept of Surgical Gastroenterology at Jaslok, Fortis & Shushrusha Hospitals, Mumbai and as Honorary Surgeon, KB Bhabha Municipal General Hospital. He has around 50 publications in international and national journals, mainly on topics related hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. As a surgeon he was involved in the first successful liver transplant in Mumbai at Jaslok Hospital & now the largest liver transplant program in western India.

He has also written extensively in the print media, with contributions to the Times of India, Hindustan Times, Mumbai Mirror and Deccan Herald. He is a founder member and current Chairperson of the Forum for Medical Ethics Society and is on the Editorial board of the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics.
