Dr. Prathap Tharyan, MD, MRCPsych, is Professor of Psychiatry at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. Prof Tharyan is the Director of the South Asian Cochrane Network & Centre (www.cochrane-sacn.org), an independent Centre of the Cochrane Collaboration (www.cochrane.org) that is hosted at the Prof BV Moses Centre for Research and Training in Evidence-Informed Health Care and Health Policy at CMC Vellore. Dr Tharyan is a systematic review author and Editor with the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group and a systematic review author with several other Cochrane Review Groups. Dr Tharyan has over 18 years of experience in research synthesis and in knowledge translation.

Dr. Tharyan is a programme partner and member of the executive of the UK Department for International Development-funded Effective Healthcare Research Consortium (http://www.evidence4health.org/). Dr Tharyan is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and works with the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group there. He is also a Visiting Professor to the Julius Centre, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dr Tharyan is an Associate Editor with the open access journal Trials; and associated with The Journal of Evidence Based Medicine;, The Indian Journal of Psychiatry, and the journal Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of BMJ.

Dr Tharyan is a member of the steering group of the Clinical Trials Registry-India (www.ctri.in) and a member of its technical working group. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Group of the Indian Council for Medical Research. He is a life member of the Forum for Research Ethics Committees in India (FERCI).
