4. Description Abstract Continuous innovations mark progress in the craft of surgery. Throughout history, successes and failures in innovations have raised ethical issues. In this article, I discuss the subject based on my experience as a paediatric cardiac surgeon. I conclude that discussion with peers, openness to criticism, and being mindful of the patient's well-being must be considered while innovating, and these aspects of the 'medical arts' must be discussed and inculcated during medical education.
