FINANCIAL REPORT 2010-2011


The income of the Forum for Medical Ethics Society in the year 2010-11 was from the following sources:

Subscriptions: Rs 96,374, sale of publications: Rs 200, membership fees: Rs. 2000, advertisements in the Journal Rs 9236, bank Interest (including interest on fixed deposits) Rs 1,45,414.10; and from donations Rs 2,10,000.

As the major event organised during the year was the Third National Bioethics Conference, most of the income and expenditure was related to it. We received grants for the purpose of organising the Third NBC from the following institutions; the ICICI Centre for Child Health and Nutrition (Rs 10,00,000), the Indian Council of Medical Research (Rs 75,000), the United Nations Population Fund (Rs 85,000) and the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation (Rs 500,000).

In the year 2010-11 we incurred expenses on the services of regular staff, payment of honoraria and printing of the journal. The Forum for Medical Ethics Society spent Rs 3,10,376 on printing and posting journal and Rs 5, 69,050 on honoraria. Approximately Rs 1,24,721 went into establishment and other expenses, including website expenses.

There are 689 current subscribers, which include 198 medical colleges receiving gift subscriptions and 157 life subscribers.

Donations to the Forum for Medical Ethics Society are eligible for 50 per cent tax exemption under sections 80G of the Income Tax Act.
